Kannawidan Ilocos 2022
Fiestas and celebrations are returning as the Philippines begins to recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak, providing Filipinos with a much-needed dose of levity. Kannawidan was officially begun by the province administration of Ilocos Sur in early February 2022, with a slew of activities aimed at celebrating life and sharing joy.
To show off and share their cultural treasures with the rest of the world, the villages founded the "Kannadiwan Festival." It honors Ilocos Sur's rich culture and customs, as well as the province's separation from Ilocos Norte. The name "kanawidan" is derived from the Ilocano word "tawid," which means "legacy" or "inheritance," and it is significant because it is the Ilocanos' way of thanking the Almighty for the city's rich heritage, which includes deep family ties among the Ilocanos, as well as for the abundant bounties. This event exemplifies the townfolk's strong faith.
The event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that should not be missed. It happens only once a year. In Ilocos Sur, a year without Kannawidan is no longer a complete year. It is even the first celebration to be observed, implying that there will be more joy and happiness to come. So, even in the midst of a health crisis, even in the midst of a dismal period, that priceless celebration is commemorated. Why? It's simply because the holiday is already ingrained in the minds of all Ilocanos. What matters is that we do not forget. To both happy and difficult times. Ilocos Sur, for sure.
